Happy Valentine's Day

I love Valentine's Day. I realize that chocolates are overpriced, flowers die, and many consider it a manufactured holiday designed to make us spend money on frivolity, but I've never seen it that way. There's pressure on so many of the other holidays that are specific to one person; Mother's Day, Birthday, Anniversary... when these pass without celebration it's hard not to take it personally. Valentine's Day is for everyone. You don't have to be in love, or in a relationship at all to celebrate. Everyone loves someone. Everyone is loved by someone. An all inclusive holiday that encourages us to express our love and appreciation for one another is never a bad thing. The beauty of motherhood is that for the rest of our lives we have a guaranteed Valentine.

This year, instead of handmade treats for the twin's classmates, I opted for an easier pre-made card. They are less than thrilled. A friend point out that they're old enough to make their own Valentines if they so choose by now, and she's completely right. If the twins want Pinterest style goodies for their class next year, I'll foot the bill, but they can do the work.
